The Stretch Run

Well, here we are.  We are in the last stretch of the school year.  It is hard to believe that we are less than 5 weeks away from the end of school.  It seems like just yesterday that we were all getting acquainted with each other in August.  We are doing exciting projects in all of the classes right now.  English 12 students are reading a nonfiction book of their choice and are building a website that will display what they have learned.  After that we are moving into the Senior Valedictory, which was a favorite of the students last year.  In English 11, we are in the middle of our literature circles unit.  We have 14 different groups reading 14 different books and creating websites.  Each student will complete different jobs for different sections of the book and they are compiling their work into one website.  After the literature circles unit, we will finish the year out with The Great Gatsby.  The Advanced Composition class is wrapping up as IPFW completes their semester next week.  We will complete a few very small assignments to finish up the year in that class.

As the year winds down, it is important to stay focused on the tasks in front of us.  I know that the weather will be getting nicer and nicer and it is tempting to give school less than total focus, but it is very important to finish the year strong, especially for the Seniors.  You have all worked too hard to have the last few weeks cause you to make a long term mistake.  As always, I accept any late work from this quarter for a 10% penalty, so if your grade is not where you want it to be, check out Harmony and see what work you might be missing.  Let's have a great finish to the school year!
